# Retries & delivery logs

## Retry schedule

A delivery is considered **successful** if your endpoint returns a 2xx status within 10 seconds. Otherwise:

| Attempt | Delay after previous |
| ------- | -------------------- |
| 1       | immediate            |
| 2       | 30 seconds           |
| 3       | 2 minutes            |
| 4       | 10 minutes           |
| 5       | 1 hour               |
| 6       | 6 hours              |

After attempt 6 the delivery is marked `failed`. The underlying event still exists and can be replayed.

## Delivery logs

**Dashboard → Webhooks → \[endpoint] → Deliveries**.

Each row shows:

* Event type and ID.
* Attempt count.
* Final HTTP status.
* Request headers + body (signed).
* Response status + body.
* Latency.

You can:

* **Replay** any delivery — useful when fixing a bug in your handler.
* **Filter** by event type or status.
* **Export** as JSON for incident response.

## Idempotency

Because delivery is at-least-once, store every `event_id` you successfully process and skip duplicates:

```ts
if (await db.events.exists(payload.event_id)) {
  return res.status(200).send("ok"); // already handled
}
await db.events.insert(payload.event_id);
await process(payload);
```

## Failure handling

* If your endpoint is consistently failing, you'll get an email after 24h.
* After 7 days of total failure, the endpoint is auto-disabled. Re-enable in the dashboard once you've fixed it.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://black-sheep-finance.gitbook.io/black-sheep-finance-docs/webhooks/delivery.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
